7 Essential Beliefs
Our core essentials are beliefs that make us distinctly Christian. If you are interested in local church membership with New Harmony Church, you must believe these seven essentials.
We Believe
There is one Living God, Creator and Lord of the universe, who eternally exists in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We Believe
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit within the virgin Mary; he lived a sinless life; he died a substitutionary, atoning death on the cross; he was bodily raised from the dead by the Father; he ascended to heaven where, as fully God and fully man, he serves as the only mediator between mankind and the Father.

Matt 1:18, Luke 24:50-51, 1 Tim 2:5, Acts 2:32-33, 2 Cor 5:21
We Believe
In the necessity of the Holy Spirit’s work in the salvation, sanctification, and transformation of all believers. Every believer receives the Holy Spirit when they are born again, and is called to walk in and be constantly filled by his power. The Holy Spirit bears fruit in the life of every believer which brings glory to God and destroys the works of the flesh. He also gives every believer one or more spiritual gifts which are designed for serving the local church.

we Believe
The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is God’s authoritative and inspired Word. It contains no errors in it’s teachings, including creation, redemptive history, its own origins, and salvation. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters of belief and conduct.

We Believe
Salvation is a work of God, not of human effort. It is received by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. All people are born spiritually dead, and are what the Bible calls lost. People cannot see the kingdom of God or understand spiritual truth unless they receive salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and repentance from sins.

We Believe
Jesus Christ is the head of the Church, which is made up of believers from all times and all places across the world. The local church is a body of believers who organize and seek to accomplish God’s will in their community. All local churches practice the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper in obedience to Christ’s command. The objective of the local church is to equip the saints to carry out the mission of spreading the Gospel in the community, and to demonstrate the power of the Gospel through compassion, righteousness, and justice.

Eph 1:22, Col 1:18, Matt 28:18-20, Luke 22:19-21, Eph 4:11-13
we Believe
Jesus Christ will personally and visibly return, glorified, to resurrect the dead and bring redemption and judgment to completion. He will recreate the heavens and the earth, forever banish all evil and suffering, and fully establish his kingdom on the new earth with his redeemed family of saints forever.

New Harmony Distinctives
These distinctives are beliefs which New Harmony Church holds where other churches and denominations may differ. Differing on these beliefs doesn’t make you unwelcome, but you should know that this is where we stand, and they will be taught from the platform to the small group.
We Believe
Marriage involves the union of one man and one woman in permanent sacred fidelity. Though various cultures and customs have evolving definitions of marriage, it is God alone who has ultimate authority to prescribe and describe the marital relationship. Furthermore, sexual intimacy is only properly exercised and pursued within the confines of this marital relationship. Sexual immorality, defined as any sexual activity outside of the boundaries of the sacred marital relationship between one man and one woman, is clearly and expressly prohibited by the Lord.

We Believe
Salvation, once received, cannot be lost. The Word teaches that those who are saved can never be snatched from the Father's hands. However the Word also teaches that true believers will bear good fruit. A lack of good fruit is cause for examining the genuineness of your profession of faith.

We Believe
Water baptism is an ordinance of the Church commanded by Jesus where the new believer is immersed under water, symbolizing the death of the old life, and the beginning of the new life. It is a picture of Christ’s burial and resurrection. Baptism is the first step of obedience in a new believer’s faith. We believe that all baptism should be based upon a person’s personal decision to follow Jesus Christ.
