Let’s be honest with each other. You got up this morning, you looked outside, you saw that blanket of ice over the driveways and roads, and somewhere inside you were thinking to yourself, “YES! A couple more hours of sleep will do me well!” It’s ok. Take in that extra sleep guilt-free.
I don’t know if you’re like me, but on these odd mornings where the weather conditions prevent us from gathering for worship, I’m always a little disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the time at home, but I truly, really love getting together with God’s family and worshiping together! I wouldn’t do what I do if I didn’t feel that way! So this morning, I’ll sit at home, pick at my guitar, quietly sing some praises while my family is still enjoying their extra sleep. And in the back of my mind, I wonder what will you do?
This day is no less the Lord’s Day just because the weather has kept us apart. My encouragement to you this morning is to dig deep into Jesus. Instead of binge watching a few hours of Netflix (or whatever), take some considerable time as a family or just by yourself, listen to your favorite worship music, read some Scripture, pray; somehow make this morning as worshipful with Jesus as you can.
If your Internet is able, here’s a link to NHC’s sermon archive. Find a Sunday or Wednesday where you missed, and watch or listen to the sermon. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, here are some links to some other solid preaching ministries, that we (your NHC pastoral staff) have been encouraged by over the years.
- J.D. Greear – The Summit Church
- Matt Chandler – The Village Church
- Eric Mason – Epiphany Fellowship (audio only)
- Todd Wagner – Watermark Church
- RightNow Media – if you have a login, this is an excellent resource of teachers and studies.
Make this morning a worship experience, despite the weather. I love you all. See you Wednesday! And don’t forget the Marriage Retreat is next weekend!
